Nora is being unfair to the husband by being flirtatious with the doctor. Her behavior keeps getting worse. She doesn't want her husband to open the letter and find out she forged his name to borrow money and reproach her. She keeps trying to find ways out of the problem without taking responsibility. But she can't run or hide anymore, because Krogstadt's letter is in the mail box and the money is coming due. Torvaldt is an innocent victim of her stupidity and disreputable behavior. Now he'll be a victim of her hysterics, because she thinks about suicide.
This situation reminds me of when kids get bad report cards, and don't want their parents to see them. They try to get home early to get the mail and hide the card. The don't want their parents to know how irresponsible they are. They're hiding the truth out of fear of retribution.
